Audio-Technica introduces Special Edition model of landmark ATH-MSR7 headphones

Named headphone of the year by Reviewed.com and allowing music fans to experience hi-res audio on-the-move and at home, the landmark over ear ATH-MSR7 premium headphones combine studio-quality sound with an ultra-comfortable design. Audio specialist Audio-Technica is now unveiling the ATH-MSR7SE, a Special Edition model of its award-winning headphones, further enhancing the original’s class-leading audio performance while introducing a striking new finish and a superior comfortable fit with improved sound isolation.

New look: metallic navy finish and added comfort

The ATH-MSR7SE features a new premium aluminium housing along with an exclusive limited edition deep metallic navy finish with subtle deluxe gold accents. Wrapped in stylish dark brown faux leather, the earpads and headband have also been specially designed to provide ultra-soft padding for improved comfort over long listening sessions. Mirroring the profile of a whole ear, the housing is shaped to boost the lower end sonics while improving sound isolation for a more immersive listening experience.

New sound: enhanced drivers and cable

Employing Audio-Technica’s pro-audio pedigree and technology from the company’s flagship wired ATH-SR9 headphones, the ATH-MSR7SE enhances the existing model’s sound.  At the centre are the specially-tuned 45mm ‘True Motion’ drivers boasting a new Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) coated diaphragm that offers increased rigidity for faster response times and reduced distortion, resulting in a more precise audio reproduction. It also enables superior handling across the higher frequency range delivering enhanced detail – vital when listening to hi-res audio on today’s compatible smartphones and portable music players.

The ATH-MSR7SE’s high resolution sonic performance is further enhanced with a new 6N-OFC oxygen-free copper 1.2 metre cable. Offering 99.99997% copper purity, this cable enables a purer audio transmission for increased clarity and accuracy.

In addition to the high-grade 6N-OFC cable, those listening on a smartphone can connect a 1.2 metre cable featuring in-line controls and a microphone while a 3.0 metre cable with a longer reach for listening at home is also supplied. There is also a 1.2 metre cable without the built-in in-line remote. To keep the headphones pristine in transit a more robust carry case is provided, while all four cables can be stored in a dedicated carry pouch.

The Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7SE will be available in October 2017, priced £299 (inc. VAT).
